Minnesota Lobbyist Charged After Texts Threatening To Shoot Lawmakers
Jonathan Bohn, a 41-year-old Minnesota lobbyist, faces a criminal charge of threats of violence. This follows an incident where he allegedly sent a series of threatening text messages to another individual.
The victim reported the threats to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office on June 18, 2025. The disturbing messages caused the recipient such alarm that they left a restaurant to secure their home.
Authorities detailed the content of the texts, which included graphic threats of violence. Bohn allegedly wrote about buying ammunition and his intent to shoot someone at the state capitol.
The victim stated their prior relationship had been strained due to political disagreements. The threats emerged amidst a tense period following a real shooting spree that targeted Minnesota legislators.
After his arrest, Bohn issued a statement expressing regret. He claimed his words were spoken from a place of grief and anguish over the recent violence, not from a genuine intent to harm.
The Minnesota House confirmed the threat was not directed at a specific lawmaker. As a condition of his release, Bohn is prohibited from possessing firearms and must stay away from the Capitol building.
This case unfolds in the shadow of a recent tragic shooting that killed one state legislator and injured another. The accused in that separate incident, Vance Boelter, remains in custody awaiting trial. Bohn is scheduled for his next court appearance in August.
