BREAKING NEWS Helicopter Crashes in California
A helicopter crash in Huntington Beach, California, on Saturday, October 11, resulted in five people being hospitalized. The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. local time.
According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, two people aboard the aircraft were safely extracted from the wreckage. Three individuals on the ground were also injured in the crash.
Video footage from the scene shows the helicopter wedged between a palm tree and the Hyatt Regency Hotel building. The aircraft had hit palm trees during its descent.
Social media videos captured the helicopter flying at a low altitude over the beach before it spun and crashed. The incident happened near the 21500 block of Pacific Coast Highway.
A section of the Pacific Coast Highway was temporarily closed following the crash. First responders, including firefighters, remained on the scene for hours.
Authorities have not determined the cause of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and will investigate.
The helicopter was reportedly associated with “Cars ‘N Copters on the Coast,” a public beach event scheduled for the following day. The event supports the Huntington Beach Police and Community Foundation.
