Donald Trump responds to losing out on Nobel Peace Prize
Trump Responds to Nobel Peace Prize Snub
President Donald Trump has spoken out after being overlooked for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize — a choice that has stirred debate worldwide. The Norwegian Nobel Committee instead honored Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado for her dedication to democratic reform and her push for a peaceful end to authoritarian rule in Venezuela.
In a gracious statement, Trump acknowledged Machado’s victory and noted her surprising tribute to him. According to Trump, she told him she accepted the award “in honor of you because you really deserved it,” a gesture he described as “a very nice thing to do.”
Trump reiterated his continued commitment to advancing peace globally, emphasizing that his diplomatic efforts remain active and impactful.
Meanwhile, the White House voiced frustration over the committee’s decision. Communications Director Steven Cheung accused the Nobel panel of favoring “politics over peace,” pointing to Trump’s central role in recent breakthroughs such as the Israel–Hamas ceasefire.
Despite the controversy, Trump’s peace efforts continue to earn recognition abroad. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif even re-nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, praising his work in reducing tensions in both South Asia and the Middle East.
Still, analysts caution that while Trump’s administration has achieved multiple ceasefires, the lasting success of these peace deals has yet to be proven.
As the debate unfolds, Trump’s remarks highlight his belief in the value of his diplomatic achievements — and his ongoing quest for global acknowledgment.
