Fetterman, Other Dems Break Ranks On Shutdown: ‘Sends Wrong Message’

Senator John Fetterman has publicly criticized his own Democratic party for its role in the ongoing government shutdown. He stated that shutting down the government sends the “wrong message” to both the nation and the world.

In an interview with Fox News, Fetterman declared he would “never” support a government shutdown. He emphasized that his priority is reopening the government, rather than engaging in a partisan blame game.

He expressed concern that the American people are the true losers in this political stalemate. Fetterman argued that crucial conversations, such as those about extending Obamacare tax credits, should happen after the government is reopened.

The shutdown has sparked mutual recriminations between both major parties. While Republicans have labeled it the “Schumer shutdown,” Democrats are demanding an extension of the expiring healthcare credits.

Fetterman was joined by two other senators in voting for a Republican-backed stopgap funding bill. However, the measure failed to secure the 60 votes required to advance.

Amid the impasse, the president ordered the Secretary of War to use “all available funds” to ensure troops receive their paychecks. This action was taken to prevent active-duty service members from missing a payment.

The administration is actively exploring options to maintain military pay without congressional approval. The president accused Democrats of holding the military hostage and demanded they reopen the government immediately.
