Trump administration gives warning to green card holders from these 19 countries following National Guard shooting
Following the shooting of two National Guard members near the White House, the Trump administration has announced a major immigration policy shift. A suspect, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, has been arrested in connection with the attack.
In response, the head of US Citizenship and Immigration Services, Joseph Edlow, stated he is directing a “full scale, rigorous re-examination” of every green card from “every country of concern.” This action was taken at the direct direction of President Donald Trump.
The policy targets individuals from 19 specific nations. A previous White House proclamation had already imposed visa bans or entry restrictions on these countries, citing foreign policy and national security concerns.
Reportedly of Afghan descent, the suspect allegedly entered the US in 2021 through a special program for Afghans following the American military withdrawal. Federal prosecutors note he once assisted the CIA.
Separately, Trump vowed on social media to “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries.” He also promised to deport foreign nationals considered a security risk or incompatible with Western civilization.
Green cards grant permanent residency and are typically only revoked for serious crimes like murder. This large-scale re-examination represents a significant and unusual administrative action.
The administration’s directive directly links a specific criminal incident to a broad review of immigration status for thousands of individuals from the listed nations, marking a swift and substantial policy reaction.
