Articles of Impeachment Filed Against Federal Judge Linked to ‘Arctic Frost’ Surveillance Scandal

Republican Congressman Brandon Gill has filed articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg. The charge is an abuse of power for his role in authorizing surveillance under “Operation Arctic Frost.”

The impeachment document alleges Judge Boasberg approved warrants and subpoenas that allowed the FBI to secretly gather communications data from Republican lawmakers. This is accused of violating constitutional protections granted to members of Congress.

Operation Arctic Frost was a Justice Department initiative officially targeting foreign influence. However, investigations suggest it expanded to surveil at least eight Republican legislators and several conservative consultants.

Gill, supported by other House Republicans, calls this a “weaponization of the judiciary.” They argue the judge was an accomplice in a political spying operation, knowingly violating the separation of powers.

In response, Democrats have dismissed the move as a partisan stunt. They defend Judge Boasberg as a respected jurist who followed the law based on credible evidence.

The White House has also rejected the allegations, stating the operation was a lawful counterintelligence program. They emphasized respect for an independent judiciary.

The impeachment resolution now moves to the House Judiciary Committee. A conviction in the Democrat-controlled Senate is considered unlikely, but the action signals a major political confrontation over government power and oversight.
