Pritzker Melts Down After Trump Says He ‘Should Be In Jail’
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker delivered a sharp rebuke to former President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. This came after Trump claimed on social media that Pritzker and Chicago’s mayor should be jailed for allegedly failing to protect federal immigration officers.
Pritzker dismissed the accusation as politically motivated and unconstitutional. He stated he would “stand up for the people” of Illinois and referred to the Trump administration as being “led by a 34-time convicted felon.”
The governor had previously responded to Trump’s threat with the phrase, “Come and get me.” He reiterated this defiant stance during a television interview, framing the conflict as a defense of state sovereignty against unconstitutional actions.
The controversy stems from a confrontation near an ICE facility where protesters confronted federal agents. Reports indicated that a woman, armed with a semi-automatic weapon, attempted to ram her vehicle into agents, who then opened fire.
Pritzker also criticized the deployment of out-of-state National Guard troops to Illinois, a move reportedly ordered by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. He expressed offense at this action, noting that even other Republican governors have called it unconstitutional.
When asked if he feared a politically motivated prosecution, Pritzker acknowledged the possibility but remained resolute. He repeated his challenge to the former president, affirming he would stand up for the law.
