Donald Trump praises decision to take Jimmy Kimmel off air

Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been suspended indefinitely by ABC, starting immediately. The network announced the show would be preempted “for the foreseeable future,” a decision that has drawn both criticism and praise.

This action follows controversial remarks made by Kimmel regarding the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During his Monday monologue, Kimmel criticized how certain political groups were responding to the tragedy.

Media company Nexstar, which operates numerous ABC affiliates, stated it “strongly objects” to Kimmel’s comments. The company will replace the show with other programming across its affiliated markets.

Kimmel’s comments also drew a strong response from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. He warned that affiliates continuing to air the show could potentially face fines or license revocations from the FCC.

Former President Donald Trump praised the cancellation from the U.K., where he is on a state visit. On Truth Social, he called Kimmel “ratings challenged” and a talentless “loser.”

According to reports, Kimmel had planned to address the backlash on his Wednesday show but was not intending to apologize. He aimed to clarify that his comments were taken out of context.

The suspension marks a significant moment for late-night television, highlighting the intense pressures at the intersection of entertainment, free speech, and political commentary.
