Trump Reveals ‘Major Investigation’ After Kirk Death
President Donald Trump said Sunday that “people on the left” are under “major investigation” following the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, though he did not provide specifics about which groups or individuals he was referring to.
Newsweek contacted the White House for comment via email outside of normal office hours on Monday.
Why It Matters
During a national address on Wednesday evening, Trump blamed the “radical left” for the assassination even as the initial investigation was in its early stages.
Authorities have charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the attack. He was taken into custody by the FBI late Thursday evening.

What To Know
Speaking to reporters September 14, Trump said: “…if you look at the problem, the problem is on the left. It’s not on the right…and when you look at the agitators, you look at the scum that speaks so badly of our country, the American flag burnings all over the place, that’s the left, that’s not the right.”
Pressed on which groups might face scrutiny, Trump responded: “We’ll see, we’ll be announcing…they’re already under major investigation. A lot of the people that you would traditionally say are on the left, they’re already under investigation.”
The president also said he would attend Kirk’s funeral next weekend. “It was a very sad weekend in the sense that we lost a great person,” Trump told reporters. “I’ll be going on early Sunday morning, we’re going to Arizona taking some people with us on Air Force One.”
