I Was Upset.
After my Grandpa passed, I was disappointed to inherit only his old bee farm. My Aunt Daphne urged me to take responsibility and tend to the hives, but I was more focused on school and friends than dusty, insect-filled chores.
Reluctantly, I finally visited the apiary. While working, I was stung and nearly quit—until I discovered a hidden map inside one of the hives. It looked like a treasure chart, just like in Grandpa’s wild stories.
Excited, I followed the map deep into the woods. Memories of Grandpa’s tales about magical creatures made the journey feel both eerie and special. I eventually found an abandoned cabin he had often described.
Inside, I discovered a metal box with a note from Grandpa. It said the treasure inside was meant for me—but only after I finished my journey. Though eager to open it, I respected his wish and continued onward.
I soon became lost and scared as night fell. After falling into a river and losing my backpack, I managed to cling to the metal box and eventually reached safety, exhausted and shaken.
Unable to wait any longer, I opened the box. Instead of gold or jewels, it contained a simple jar of honey and an old photo of us together. At first, it felt like a letdown.
Later, I realized Grandpa’s true gift was teaching me patience, responsibility, and the value of hard work. Today, I run my own apiary and share his lessons—and his honey—with my own children.
