The horrifying motive behind Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping could be linked to Savannah: expert
Kidnapping Likely Linked to Savannah Guthrie
An expert believes the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, 84, is more likely connected to her daughter, Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, than to money. Although a ransom note demanded millions, former CIA member and FBI special agent Tracy Walder doubts finances are the main motive. “I am not convinced it’s fully about money,” she said, noting that Savannah’s salary is public and that “there are other people who make more money than she does.”
Obsession or Vendetta Theory
Walder suggests the crime may stem from either an obsession with Savannah or anger over her work. “I, in my gut, feel like this is someone that either had some kind of obsession with Savannah because of how high profile she is,” she said, adding it could also be “someone that was upset with her” over a story or interview. Because Savannah is so visible, Walder warned the case highlights the risks of public exposure and personal information.Signs of a Planned Targeting
Authorities believe Nancy was abducted from her Arizona home while asleep. Her doorbell camera was disconnected, and investigators say the suspect knew where security cameras were located. Walder stressed, “There’s no way this is a robbery gone wrong,” adding, “There’s no way this is random.” Blood found at the scene was confirmed to be Nancy’s.
Investigation and Family Plea
The ransom note reportedly included deadlines and details suggesting the suspect may be near Tucson. The FBI is assisting the family, who have publicly pleaded for communication. Nancy’s son Camron said, “We need you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward.”
