Fetterman Apologizes For Dems Who Can’t Get ‘S**t’ Together Amid Shutdown
Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has publicly apologized for the Senate Democrats’ failure to pass a bill ending the ongoing government shutdown. He expressed deep frustration over the impact on federal workers and American families.
The shutdown, now in its fourth week, has reached a critical point. Funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has lapsed, threatening food assistance for approximately 42 million Americans.
Fetterman stated he would witness the consequences firsthand in Pennsylvania. He reported that lines at a local food bank run by his wife have already grown longer, anticipating more families will lose their benefits.
“I’m apologizing that we can’t even get our s— together and just open up our government,” Fetterman told CNN. He called the situation an “absolute failure” and expressed sympathy for parents struggling to feed their children.
While Fetterman has consistently voted for a spending bill to reopen the government, he criticized his own party for the inability to reach an agreement with majority Republicans. He suggested this failure indicates significant problems within the Democratic party.
In contrast, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has placed the blame squarely on President Donald Trump. Schumer accused the president of manufacturing a hunger crisis to gain leverage in unrelated policy negotiations.
Republican leaders have stated they are willing to discuss other Democratic priorities, such as Obamacare subsidies, but only after a “clean” bill is passed to fund and reopen the government. The stalemate continues as vital benefits expire.
