Veteran Canadian journalist [Name] Thomson, renowned for her interviews with political leaders and celebrities, passed away Sunday at the age of 61. She died peacefully with her family by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Thomson began her career on-air as a reporter for CTV News Toronto, gradually rising to become a prominent anchor on CTV News Channel. Earlier in her career, she also worked on the network’s Canada AM morning show.
Before joining CTV, she served as a news anchor at Global News from 1997 to 2003, establishing herself as a trusted voice in Canadian journalism.
In October of last year, Thomson received the lifetime achievement award from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) of Canada. Lis Travers, then-president of RTDNA Canada, called her “one of Canada’s most respected news personalities.”
Her career spanned more than three decades, covering major events such as the 2016 U.S. presidential election. She conducted high-profile interviews with figures including Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Donald Trump, and Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.
