To avoid this, Dr. Whittington recommends a specific technique for pitting an avocado. His method involves holding the knife by the base, close to the handle, for better control.

He advises gently stabbing the pit with the knife’s tip, rather than slicing forcefully toward it. A simple twist of the knife should then dislodge the pit safely from the fruit.
