Trump Warns Democrats: End Government Shutdown or Prepare for Massive Federal Job Cuts

President Donald Trump has delivered a stark ultimatum to congressional Democrats, demanding they immediately reopen the federal government. He set a four- to five-day deadline, warning of severe consequences if his demand is not met.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump threatened “substantial reductions” in federal staffing. He stated that if the shutdown continues, many government jobs could be permanently eliminated as part of his administration’s focus on balancing the budget.

The president also indicated plans to eliminate or downsize several federal programs. Although he provided no specifics, sources confirm his administration is preparing a list of departments and programs targeted for consolidation or cuts.

Democratic leaders have strongly criticized the president’s approach. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer labeled the threats “political blackmail,” arguing that using workers as leverage is not how a democracy should function.

The political standoff centers on a dispute over healthcare funding. Democrats are pushing to expand Medicaid reimbursements for states covering undocumented immigrants and increase Affordable Care Act subsidies, proposals the White House firmly opposes.

Hundreds of thousands of federal employees remain furloughed or are working without pay. Union leaders have condemned Trump’s layoff threats, calling them irresponsible and harmful to workers’ livelihoods.

If no deal is reached by the end of the week, the White House may begin issuing layoff notices to non-essential agencies. While financial markets have so far remained stable, analysts warn that prolonged uncertainty could soon erode investor confidence.
