DOJ Releases Update Following James Comey’s Indictment

Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a federal grand jury and is scheduled for arraignment on October 9 in Virginia. The indictment stems from an investigation into his 2020 testimony before Congress regarding the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” Trump-Russia probe.

A central allegation is that Comey falsely testified he never authorized FBI personnel to serve as anonymous sources for media reports. Prosecutors assert this statement was untrue.

In response, Comey declared his innocence in an Instagram video. He stated that while standing up to Donald Trump has personal costs, he is not afraid and is confident in the judicial system.

Former President Trump celebrated the indictment on Truth Social, labeling Comey a “dirty cop” and accusing him of lying. He expressed doubt that Comey could explain his way out of the charges.

Attorney General Pam Bondi stated the indictment demonstrates the Justice Department’s commitment to the principle that “no one is above the law.” She emphasized holding those who abuse power accountable for misleading the public.

FBI Director Kash Patel also commented, framing the action as a step toward accountability for what he described as the “politicization of law enforcement” during the “Russiagate hoax.”

This development marks a significant moment for Comey, who led the FBI during the politically charged investigations into Hillary Clinton’s emails and possible Trump-Russia connections. He was later fired by Trump in 2017 and has since become one of the former president’s most prominent critics.
