Put this in your house and you will never see flies, mosquitoes or cockroaches again
Common household pests like flies and cockroaches can quickly become a nuisance in the kitchen. Fortunately, you can create an effective deterrent using simple ingredients likely already in your home, such as mint toothpaste and baking soda.
The combination works because insects are repelled by strong scents. Peppermint from the toothpaste, especially when enhanced with optional essential oil, creates an aroma that flies, mosquitoes, and roaches find unpleasant. The fizzing reaction from mixing baking soda and vinegar helps disperse this scent.
Creating the repellent is a simple, five-minute process. You will need one tablespoon each of mint toothpaste, baking soda, and white vinegar, mixed with half a cup of warm water. Peppermint essential oil can be added for extra strength.
First, blend the toothpaste and baking soda into a smooth paste. Then, slowly add the vinegar, which will cause a foaming reaction. Next, stir in the warm water and the essential oil if you are using it, until the mixture is well combined.
Pour the final mixture into small, shallow containers like jar lids or saucers. For the best results, place these containers in areas where pests are commonly seen, such as near sinks, behind trash bins, in dark corners, or along entry points like doors and windows.
This natural deterrent should begin working within about an hour, as the minty scent fills the air. The solution encourages pests to leave the area without harming them. For ongoing effectiveness, remember to refresh the mixture every two to three days as the scent fades.
This method is a low-cost and simple repellent, but it is not a substitute for proper hygiene or professional pest control for serious infestations. Always keep the mixture out of reach of children and pets, as essential oils can be irritating.
