Gordon Ramsay issues health warning after surgery
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay recently revealed he underwent surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. He shared the news on Instagram this past Saturday, posting a photo of a bandage on his jaw.
Ramsay expressed gratitude to the medical team at The Skin Associates for their quick work. He humorously clarified the bandage was not the result of a facelift, joking he would “need a refund” if it were.
He used the opportunity to remind his followers about the importance of sunscreen. Skin cancer is a growing concern, with one in five Americans developing it before age 70.
Basal cell carcinoma often appears as a slightly transparent bump on sun-exposed skin. Common areas include the neck and head, and it may look like a sore that doesn’t heal.
Cancer Research UK commended Ramsay for raising awareness. They emphasized the importance of sun safety: seeking shade, covering up, and applying sunscreen regularly.
This isn’t the first time Ramsay has shared a health scare. Last year, he posted about a serious cycling accident that left him bruised and shaken.
He stressed the vital importance of wearing a helmet, regardless of how short the trip. Ramsay credited trauma surgeons and nurses for his recovery, calling himself lucky to be alive.
