ICE Agents Make Arrests Outside Newsom’s Anti-Trump Rally

U.S. Border Patrol agents were present outside an anti-Trump rally held by California Governor Gavin Newsom in Los Angeles. The agents, who were armed and masked, maintained a visible presence and made at least one arrest during the event.

Governor Newsom hosted the “Liberation Day” rally to announce his strategy against a Republican-led redistricting effort in Texas. He is a prominent critic of former President Donald Trump and is often mentioned as a potential future Democratic presidential candidate.

In video footage, agents were seen escorting a handcuffed individual away from the rally as bystanders shouted in protest. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino stated that the agents were in Los Angeles to make the city “a safer place.”

Chief Bovino emphasized that his unit was not intimidated and had no plans to leave. When asked for a message for Governor Newsom, he reiterated their commitment to public safety.

Newsom’s office responded defiantly, sending an all-caps email stating they would “NOT BE INTIMIDATED” and calling Trump a “CRIMINAL PRESIDENT.” His social media team also accused Trump’s “private army” of being on private property illegally.

During his speech, Newsom pointed out the agents and suggested their presence was a deliberate intimidation tactic by the Trump administration. He called it a sign of “Trump’s America.”

The event occurred as a new poll showed most California voters oppose Newsom’s plan to shift redistricting power from an independent commission to the state’s legislature. The poll found bipartisan support for keeping the commission independent.
