She has been diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This eye disease affects central vision by damaging the macula, part of the retina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dench was first diagnosed with the condition over a decade ago, in 2012. AMD is a leading cause of vision loss in people over 50 and can be hereditary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her eyesight has now declined to a severe degree. In a recent interview, she confessed she can no longer see well enough to recognize people\u2019s faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The condition also prevents her from enjoying everyday activities. Dench has stated she is unable to watch television or read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This significant vision loss impacts her independence. She has revealed she can no longer leave the house alone for fear of falling or walking into objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
