Steve Lipscomb, a 42-year-old foreman from Elkview, West Virginia,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
died on Nov. 8 while helping his crew escape a sudden flood inside the Rolling Thunder Mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials say an old mine wall collapsed, releasing water that trapped him after he made sure \u201cevery member of his crew was evacuated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gov. Patrick Morrisey said \u201call of West Virginia mourns the loss of this courageous man,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
adding that Lipscomb \u201cspent his final moments ensuring his men could escape to safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rescue teams searched for five days before finding his body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alpha CEO Andy Eidson said, \u201cHis actions to ensure the safety of his crew members were heroic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A former Marine who survived a roadside bomb in Iraq, Lipscomb was known for his selflessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His wife Heather said, \u201cHe was more worried about everybody else getting out\u2026 than he was concerned about himself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
